Specialities
The lovely market town of Malton in North Yorkshire proudly brandishes the label of ‘Yorkshire’s Food Capital’ and its resident cookery school certainly bears testament to the title. Given the outstanding quality of produce in this part of the country – both from the land and the nearby North Sea – it’s the perfect school for the gourmet who really wants to get their hands on some top-drawer ingredients. Game from the North Yorkshire Moors is a particular speciality, with seasonal courses incorporating grouse, partridge, hare, pigeon and venison drawing in the wilder foodies, while fishier folk can unsheath their filleting knives and claw-crackers at the school’s seafood-focused masterclasses. The school runs regular classes for kids, ‘informal courses’ where you can whip up dinner for two to cook at home, and – for those more into consuming than cooking – meat-and-eat tasting tours taking in the town’s abundance of artisanal producers.
